The 2021 Oregon Trail Gravel Grinder was a 5-day gravel bike stage race near Bend Oregon. It covered 326 miles, climbed 28,000 ft, and had around 20 hours of riding. All during a record heat wave.

When I found out that this ride had an e-bike category, I thought it would be a good test for my bike and a fun ride! It turned out that I was the only one who entered the e-bike category.

This was an interesting and fun ride! Being able to keep up with riders faster than me and seeing how fast they really are was great, and just being out there on this big ride and riding all those miles, day after day for five days was amazing!

I love how my Jones e-bikes let me do rides that I usually would not or could not do on my pedal bikes. I still love pedal bikes but I also love all the new riding I can do with my e-bikes.

The motor and battery are completely removable and it can be made back into a regular pedal bike.

There was lots of climbing and I was riding fast. But I still had around 30% to 50% battery left after riding each day!

Riding on the road at a slower pace with less climbing, would use much less power and would really increase the range. I’m thinking about going on a long road touring ride soon. I want to also include off-road and dirt roads. It would be a bike touring/bikepacking ride.

I really enjoyed this event! My bike rode and worked great every day. This ride showed me some of what is possible with this bike. I have been planning and doing some longer rides since this.
